Let’s Talk Goody Bags
If you have gone to a child’s birthday party, or have thrown one, you know that party bags, or as some call it “goody bags” are one of the highlights of the child’s party.
Children are easily amazed, and more than anything they love surprises, so it is not surprising that they would be quite anxious for the end of the party, just so they can receive the goody bags.
As an event planner, I think about every detail of a party, and goody bags are among them.
Before I decide what to add to the goody bag, I must think about the outlook of the bag. With so many choices of bag design and décor, it is easy to go off track. A good rule of thumb is to have the outlook of the bag matching the party theme, inclusively, everything in the party should match somehow the party theme, if you can not necessarily match it with designs and other details, you could easily blend it with colours that would go well with the chosen theme.
For instance, if it is a unicorn themed party, the goody bag should match it, however, I recognise that this is not always possible. You might be on a budget, and the goody bag might turn out to be expensive, if that is the case you could just buy a bag in a colour that matches a unicorn theme. From what I know the colours around a unicorn themed party are pink, yellow/gold, blue, cream/beige, and white. With these colour choices in mind, knowing that your unicorn decoration will most likely be based around pink, gold, and some white, I would choose pink or white for the goody bag.
Besides buying a colour bag, you could also create them yourself. I love a good DIY, decorating things from scratch gives me immense satisfaction, if you are someone like me, why not do this next time you need a goody bag.
You could buy plain goody bags and decorate it yourself, for this you would need:
Coloured Paper of your choice (matching the theme)
Scissors (a good one)
It is also a good idea to give this task to kids, this could very well be one of the entertainments, you could set up a DIY station, give them each a plain bag and all the items that they would need to create their perfect goody bag, put their creativity to use (and save money).
Another idea is to customise the goody bags with the help of the birthday child. You could give the child brown paper bags and ask the child to decorate each bag on their own using art and crafts supplies that you provided them with. You could also ask them to add the receiver’s name on each bag to make them look specially personalised.
Once the goody bag customisation is done and dusted, you need to think about what goodies you will include inside.
I recommend at least four to five items in the bag. Of these five items, at least 3 need to be eatables, such as:
The other two items should be presents or toys that the child can play with. These can be:
Jewellery and Tiaras
A6 Pocket Size Diary and a Pencil
A customised Hat and sunglasses (during summer)
Adding an instant Picture of the child taken during the party using a polaroid camera is also a very good idea, the child will like to look back at the picture and reminiscing the exciting day. Whatever item you decide to add to the bag must be fun and exciting for the child.
Summarizing and Concluding, goody bags or party bags, whatever you would like to call them, are one of the items in the planning of the celebration that you can play with and customise it the way you want it to look like. There is a lot of ways to come up with affordable party bags ideas, to make it economical leaving you with extra money to spend on entertainment for example. Moreover, if you do have a budget that gives you extra room for gorgeous and extravagant party bags, then please, do not hesitate, spend away.
